Playwork & Childcare

National Progression Award (NPA)
This qualification is ideal for  a wide range of candidates eg S5 & S6 students, school leavers, adults returning to education, unemployed & employed candidates wishing to enhance their career prospects, workers with no recognised qualifications and also provides a stepping stone towards the level 3 practitioners award.
The NPC is recognised by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) as a qualification appropriate for a support worker in most childcare and out of school settings.


Level 2 Children's Care, Learning and Development
This qualification is for those working in a supporting role e.g. one-to-one carer, class-room assistant.
The level 2 is recognised by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) as a qualification appropriate for a support worker in childcare and early education setting e.g. learning support auxiliary or one-to-one carer.
Candidates might chose to progress onto level 3 on completion of this award.

Level 3 Children's Care, Learning and Development
This qualification is for those working in a promoting role e.g. playleader, nursery assistant.
The level 3 is recognised by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) as a qualification appropriate for all practitoners in childcare and early education settings. This qualification can be delivered using an on-line portfolio. Candidates might choose to progress to level 4 on completion of this award.

Level 4 Children's Care, Learning and Development
This qualification is for those working in a management or lead practitioner role e.g. senior playworker, centre management.
The level 4 is recognised by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) as a qualification appropriate for all lead practitioners and managers in childcare, early education and out of school care settings. This qualification is delivered using an online portfolio.


Childhood Practice Degree Level Qualification
As a member of the SSSC Childhood Practice Technical Expert Group and the newly formed Childhood Practice Awards Reference Group, our Executive Manager is working to ensure that our level 4 Children's Care, Learning and Development candidates are prepared for the next stage of their learning.
